TheatreBooks was established in 1975 by Leonard McHardy and John Harvey, who met while working in one of Toronto's "alternate" theatres. The store soon became a mecca for theatre professionals, students and ardent fans.
The store soon became a mecca for theatre professionals, students and ardent fans. Then, as now, the store stocked plays in English from around the world and, of course, all plays published in Canada. TheatreBooks stocks and sells plays from Dramatists Play Service, Dramatic Publishing Co., Samuel French, and the leading play publishers in Great Britain.
We carry books on all aspects of theatre production, as well as opera and dance. Our section on Drama and Theatre in Education is recognized internationally. In 1980, TheatreBooks expanded to include books on all aspects of film and filmmaking. As with theatre, the store has become a resource for anyone interested in movies. Recently, TheatreBooks expanded its stock to include screenwriting software and is now a leading source in North America.
We are fortunate to have had, and continue to have, the loyal support of professionals, students and fans who choose to shop at TheatreBooks and now TheatreBooks on-line. As always, we believe a bookstore is as good as its customers. At TheatreBooks, we discover daily that we have the best.
Theatrebooks is open from Monday to Friday, 10 am. to 7 pm., Saturdays 10 to 6 pm., and Sundays noon to 5 pm. (All times are Eastern Standard.) Please note that all prices are in Canadian dollars. Prices are subject to change without notice.
